Accelerate Weekly #86

Accelerate Weekly – Issue 86 (Week of August 18, 2025)

This week’s Accelerate Weekly is full of updates for farmers, ranchers, and land stewards in West-Central Alberta. We welcomed soil health expert Dr. Jill Clapperton for a pasture walk and the Wildwood Breakfast Plot Tour, where producers explored cover crops, biodiversity, and resilient pastures.

Looking ahead, Farming Forward and ALUS are co-hosting the Parkland Field Day with practical sessions on soil testing, conservation strategies, and the Environmental Farm Plan. Registration is also open for the Story of the Weeds Breakfast Plot Tour in Sangudo, featuring weed ID, biological controls, and non-herbicide management tools.

Other highlights in this issue:

  • Member Spotlight on Twin Springs Farm and their soil improvement journey

  • Updates on ALUS projects that turn marginal farmland into wildlife-friendly habitats

  • Two Alberta Government surveys on marked fuel and agricultural plastics recycling

  • Newsworthy shares on the power of clover in beef pastures and a feature on permaculture grazing

  • Upcoming events including Shelterbelt Planning and Fall Tree Care Workshop (Sept 10), Targeted Grazing Course (Sept 15), Digging Deeper Breakfast Plot Tour in Brazeau (Sept 4), and What a Waste seminar (Sept 17)
