Accelerate Weekly #95

Accelerate Weekly – Issue 95 (Week of October 20, 2025)

This week’s Accelerate Weekly covers shifting cattle markets, winter readiness, and the final push for early-bird registration for Gathering Ground: A Producer Development Day. With recent U.S. announcements about beef price policies creating uncertainty, the team highlights an upcoming session on market risk management with Ryan Copithorne of Cows in Control. Another Gathering Ground session will feature Merck Animal Health’s Marissa Lemay, introducing producers to the SenseHub® Cow-Calf system and how real-time data can improve herd management.

Farming Forward also shares big news from RDAR: the provincial rotational grazing program now includes support for virtual fencing technology, offering cost-shared funding for GPS-enabled collars that help producers manage pastures more efficiently. Farming Forward plans to trial a small number of collars in 2026 to demonstrate their potential benefits for soil health and grazing flexibility.

Local Environmental Farm Plan (EFP) workshops are now open for registration, with sessions in Whitecourt and Wildwood to help producers update or complete their plans ahead of year-end and upcoming program deadlines. The issue also includes seasonal reminders, timely industry reads, and several community opportunities — including youth entries for the Canadian Forage and Grassland Association’s Kids Grazing Plan Challenge, a free Talk. Ask. Listen. mental health workshop, and an EFP workshop hosted by Strathcona County.
