Meet Dr. Jill Clapperton: Champion of Soil Health and Functional Agroecosystems

At Farming Forward, we believe that healthy soils are the foundation of resilient farms, and there are few voices more passionate and knowledgeable about that truth than Dr. Jill Clapperton.

A rhizosphere ecologist, soil health pioneer, and internationally recognized speaker, Jill has spent decades helping farmers, ranchers, and researchers across the globe understand how to build truly functional agroecosystems from the ground up. Whether through cropping systems, integrated grazing, or practical on-farm observations, her work empowers producers to take actions that restore soil biology, improve water cycling, and regenerate the health of both land and livestock.

We're thrilled to welcome Jill to West-Central Alberta this August for two special events:

  • ‘Step into Soil - A pasture walk with Jill Clapperton’. 12th of August @ Mayerthorpe. Learn more here.

  • ‘Breakfast Plot Tours: Boosting Soil Health with jill Clapperton’. 13th of August @ Wildwood. Learn more here.

Before you see her in person, take a moment to learn more about her approach and passion, in her own words:

I am an internationally recognized scientist, speaker and educator focusing on creating healthy productive soils that yield functional agroecosystems. My presentations, workshops, and consulting services provide practical, science-based information and technical advice on how to “Plant with Purpose”, and measure success. Gaia Theory suggests that all actions and things are connected. Changing one thought, action, plant species, practice, or chemical can set a series of cascading effects into motion. Let’s keep the cascade in a mostly positive direction!  My goal is to use cropping and/or integrated grazing system strategies to create and sustain healthy soils. The journey to efficiently recycling nutrients, increasing water holding and ion exchange capacities, producing healthy crops and livestock, nutritious food and fodder, and rebuilding the environmental integrity of the farm agroecosystem begins with plant root canopies. Let’s work together to find ways to make our soils healthy and our agroecosystems sing in harmony with the landscape.

Rhizoterra believes that healthy soil is the means to a “Healthy World”.
