Meet your Speakers!

Dr. Tim McAllister is a Principal Research Scientist with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada at the Lethbridge Research and Development Centre. Raised on a cow-calf farm near Innisfail, Alberta, he brings both practical and research-based perspectives to his work in livestock production.

Dr. McAllister’s research focuses on ruminant nutrition, microbiology, and environmental sustainability in beef production systems. His work includes greenhouse gas emissions, manure management, food safety, and the use of composting as a method for managing livestock mortalities and reducing environmental risk.

With more than 800 peer-reviewed publications and international recognition for his contributions to agricultural research, Dr. McAllister is a leader in developing science-based solutions for producers. At this workshop, he will share his expertise on carcass composting and its role in effective on-farm mortality management.

The workshop will conclude with a producer site visit, where participants will learn how on-farm carcass composting is being implemented in a real-world setting. Attendees will hear about practical approaches to managing livestock mortalities and, weather permitting, will have the opportunity to view an active compost site and observe the composting process firsthand. The session will wrap up with time for questions, discussion, and connecting with other producers. We look forward to seeing you there!

Cleanfarms is a Canadian non-profit organization that supports farmers in recycling agricultural plastics and managing farm waste. Their programs offer practical solutions for materials such as grain bags, silage plastics, and containers. Information on Cleanfarms programs and resources will be presented during the workshop.
