Accelerate Weekly #93

Accelerate Weekly – Issue 93 (Week of October 6, 2025)

This week’s Accelerate Weekly highlights the shift into fall as the Farming Forward team completes its final round of field data collection, from feed samples to soil tests, and transitions to partial work-from-home hours. The biggest update is that registration is now open for Gathering Ground: A Producer Development Day, with early-bird rates available. The keynote speaker has also been announced: Annessa Good-Hassard, a Certified Family Enterprise Advisor who will deliver a practical, grounded talk on farm succession titled “Boots on the Ground: Succession at the Ground Level.”

The newsletter also shares results from the 2025 Q3 Forage Pricing Survey for the Edmonton North region. A detailed bar graph (page 3) breaks down reported prices for mixed hay, alfalfa, greenfeed, and straw across multiple communities, reflecting variations in growing conditions and feed quality through the season.

Several opportunities for learning and planning are featured this week. Producers can join upcoming Environmental Farm Plan workshops on October 7, 14, and 29, with one-on-one support available from Farming Forward staff. The Winter Grazing School with Steve Kenyon runs October 8, offering practical strategies for bale grazing, swath grazing, winter water management, and fencing setup.

In the Newsworthy Shares section, readers will find resources on choosing the right weaning strategy for beef operations and the newly released 2025 Livestock Tax Deferral prescribed regions. Community Shoutouts highlight the Young Agrarians Business Mentorship Network (applications open until October 31) and the upcoming Alberta Sheep Breeders’ Symposium taking place October 16–18 in Camrose.
