Session Spotlight: Ryan Copithorne, Cows in Control

When it comes to managing financial risk in agriculture, few voices are as grounded in both the numbers and the realities of ranch life as Ryan Copithorne.

Ryan’s career has involved managing and operating a large historic family ranch as well as operating corporate cattle operations and cattle feeding. His current company is called Cows in Control, a company designed to focus on providing financial and risk management advice to farmers to protect the value of their commodities and inventories.

With an MBA from Queen's School of Business, a finance degree, and over 30 years in the ranching and farming business, Ryan brings a rare combination of business expertise and hands-on industry experience.

Breakout Session:

Record High Prices, Record High Risk: How to Manage Risk in Volatile Ag & Livestock Markets

As prices climb, the dollars invested — and the dollars at risk — grow just as fast. Even small market shifts can now mean major financial swings.

In this practical, hands-on session, Ryan will introduce key concepts of risk management and apply them through an interactive exercise focused on today’s cattle market. Participants will explore practical tools to help protect their business — and see how these same principles can apply across different types of operations.

Join Ryan in the Round Cabin at Gathering Ground to dig into real-world strategies that help make volatility manageable and build resilience for whatever the markets bring next.
