Are you new to sheep and goats or thinking about adding small ruminants to your operation? This is the event for you! Whether you're just getting started or you're an experienced producer looking to connect and learn, everyone is welcome to join us on the evening of July 14th at Wye Community Hall for a practical and informative workshop all about small ruminants.
The evening kicks off at 5pm with registration and dinner, giving you a chance to connect with others before the program gets underway. At 5:30pm we will hear a welcome from Strathcona County and Farming Forward, followed by two fantastic speaker sessions packed with practical knowledge you can actually use.
Sheep — Charlie Hansen, Alberta Lamb Association. Charlie will be covering the basics of sheep conformation, key traits to look for when selecting breeding stock, a high level overview of breed categories including the differences between wool and hair breeds, and the important questions you should be asking a breeder before you buy.
Goats — Les Brownlie and Melodi MacKinnon. Les and Melodi from the Alberta Goat ASsociation will be co-presenting on similar topics but with a focus on goats — covering conformation, selecting breeding stock, and what to watch out for when buying your first animals.
